A tech pack is the document that tells a manufacturer exactly how to make a garment. It turns an idea into a specification, so everyone is working to the same instructions.
Why a tech pack matters
Without clear instructions, a manufacturer has to guess. Guesses lead to samples that miss the mark and extra rounds of revisions. A good tech pack saves time and reduces misunderstandings.
What a tech pack usually includes
- Technical drawings: front, back and detail views with construction notes.
- Measurements: a size chart with key points of measure and tolerances.
- Fabric details: composition, weight and finish.
- Colours: colour references or codes for each colourway.
- Trims: zips, drawcords, buttons, labels and hangtags.
- Branding: logo files, placement, size and decoration method.
- Packaging: how each piece should be folded, bagged and labelled.
Don’t have a tech pack?
You can still get started. A clear reference photo, a description of the fabric and fit, and your logo files are enough to begin a conversation. We can help clarify details during our specification review.
Tips for a better tech pack
- Use vector logo files (AI, EPS, SVG or PDF).
- Include a reference garment or photo where possible.
- Be specific about fabric weight and fit rather than only style names.
- Keep one version and track changes.
